Seems there's always chatter about cutting carbs versus low fat diets. According to a Wall Street Journal article last week, the answer for choosing the right diet for you may be as simple as a swab of your cheek for DNA testing.
Stanford University researchers reported that genetic tests can actually help you decide which diet is best for you. This study followed 133 overweight women with a genetic predisposition to benefit from a low-carbohydrate diet. This sample group lost 2 1/2 times as much weight as those on the same diet who did not share their genetic makeup. Likewise, certain women benefited more than others from a low fat diet.
The test was developed by Interleukin Genetics Inc., a Waltham, Mass., developer of genetic tests that sponsored the study. The test uses a cheek swab to sample cells for DNA analysis for $149.
Where do we fall on this one? Well, it's hard to ignore a Stanford research study. However, we don't want to suggest false weight loss hope to anyone. For those of us who struggle, there's more to it than the carbs in a dinner roll or the glycemic index of too many baby carrots. In the words of our favorite Weight Watchers Leader Jani, "None of us ended up here from eating too many baby carrots."
One thing is for sure, we'll be on the long term results from this study like white on rice. That's not very low carb of us is it?

That's a very interesting article. I guess you just try a bunch of diets and determine on your own which works best for YOU. I know that a raw diet can help most anyone lose weight, so I try to add raw foods to every meal I eat. We should strive for 50% raw as our bodies need those raw enzymes for a healthy existence. We are born with the right amount of digestive enzymes and lose them as we get older unless we eat lots of raw food. Going totally raw is hard and I think moderation IS the key to any diet. Many people eat their fruits and vegetables , but cook them all. They can be very sick too. We need the raw enzymes. You can tell, as your body gobbles them up first. I think that is why you lose weight eating lots of raw foods. Raw fruits and veggies and definitely raw seeds and nuts. Any nut that is roasted is then made rancid. I'll get off my soapbox now.
